Fiona van der Marel started flute lessons with Gerdien Wichers at the age of ten. In 2011 Gera van der Meulen became her new teacher and together with the teachers of the Ferwerda Academy she started preparing for entrance exams at conservatories. In 2013 she was accepted into the preliminary training of the Prince Claus Conservatory where she is currently studying bachelors in classical music performance with Egbert Jan Louwerse. Fiona has participated in summer courses at the Dutch Flute Academy and The Scottish International Flute Summer School and has received master classes from Jaques Zoon, Emily Beynon, Michael Cox and Wissam Boustany, among others. She has performed with various symphonies and wind orchestras such as; the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Koninklijke Militaire Kapel Johan Willem Friso, the NASKA and the Noordpoolorkest. She teaches at the Pasveerkorps Leeuwarden as well as assisting private individuals to be engaged in social projects that are related to music and dementia, among other things.
